SCORPIONS MARCH ON

SCUNTHORPE kept their strong run of form going with a 53-37 win over Redcar in their opening home Cab Direct Championship fixture.

The Scorpions completed the double over the Bears to take the maximum three points from the meeting with Jake Allen (13+1) and Kyle Howarth (11+2) leading the scoring, whilst Connor Mountain chipped in with 10+1.

Charles Wright scored 10 for the visitors and Dan Gilkes notched six on his debut, but the Teesside club are still to get off the mark after five league matches.

Redcar co-promoter Jamie Swales said: “We are the youngest side in the league, but the team is improving!

“It was a pretty good performance and Connor (Bailey) started to build his confidence with a couple of good heat wins, so hopefully that can help him kick on. Dan rode well and got a heat win.”
