SCORPIONS KEEP IT GOING

SCUNTHORPE remained on course for the Cab Direct Championship play-offs with a hard-fought 51-39 win over Birmingham at the Eddie Wright Raceway.

The Brummies were much improved on previous visits and led after six races before the Scorpions eased clear in the second half of the meeting.

Ryan Douglas led the way with 13 points with Jake Allen and Connor Mountain both scoring 9+1, whilst Richard Lawson made a successful guest appearance for the Brummies with 14+1.

Scunthorpe boss Dave Peet said: “The scores were close for most of the evening, but the lads did the job and pulled away at the end of the meeting.

“Birmingham picked their guest wisely in Richard Lawson, who probably scored quite a bit more than Nick Morris would have done.

“Tonight proved you cannot underestimate anyone in this league – we didn’t, but we still had to fight hard. But I feel good about this team, because we’re winning meetings despite the feeling there’s more to come, because we aren’t firing on all cylinders yet.”

Birmingham manager Stewart Dickson said: “We came here to put up a much more respectable showing unlike the last couple of times we’ve been here this season.

“And while, unfortunately, the result didn’t go our way, I felt we were a lot more competitive, we battled hard and I was quite proud of the efforts tonight.

“I just think we’re perhaps one rider short of where I want this team to be.”
