PREVIEW: WORKINGTON v GLASGOW (CAB DIRECT CHAMP)

WORKINGTON hand a debut to new signing Drew Kemp when they host Glasgow at the GT Tyres Arena today (Saturday, 3pm).

Kemp has joined the Comets as a replacement for Craig Cook and his first outing for the club comes in a big Cab Direct Championship encounter with match and aggregate points available.

They also bring in Jordy Loftus as a guest at reserve as Niklas Holm Jakobsen is away competing in the European Under-19 Championship.

The Tigers won the reverse fixture 48-42 and they travel to Cumbria on a high after their impressive win at Oxford in midweek, where reserve Freddy Hodder scored his maiden paid maximum at this level.

Comets manager James Denham said: “We need the win, and the aggregate point would be huge for us as well. Glasgow lead by six points, so it is all to play for.

“We started brilliantly last week and went ten points ahead, which was exactly what I was looking for, but we seemed to fade during the middle part of the meeting. We need to iron that out and start bringing greater consistency to our performances.

“Hopefully, the signing of Drew will help provide that consistency. He is a proven heat leader at this level, and I am confident he will deliver the points we need from that position.”

Hodder said: “I know I can do it and my performance at Oxford proves that. This season has been really frustrating for me, it’s been hard mentally and on the bike. 

“The plan that this isn’t just a one-off. I need to take this confidence into Workington on Saturday.

“It’s a shame we haven’t had a great start to the season. Our league form is really important now. Hopefully now we are all finding a hot spot and we can keep it going.”
