PREVIEW: SCUNTHORPE v REDCAR (CAB DIRECT CHAMP)

SCUNTHORPE’S final fixture of the season in the Cab Direct Championship sees them host Redcar tonight (Friday) in the reverse of last week’s feisty encounter on Teesside.

The Bears won that match 55-35 and require just the aggregate point tonight to officially book their place in the play-offs.

The return at the Eddie Wright Raceway will be the first time Scorpions racer Jake Allen and Bears captain Charles Wright will have met since their controversial post-race clash last Friday.

Scunthorpe bring in Ben Trigger to guest for the injured Declan Kennedy, whilst Antti Vuolas replaces the unwell Erik Riss for Redcar.

Scorpions promoter Rob Godfrey said: “All we can do is try and end a poor season on a high note with a win which might, just might, mean we dodge the wooden spoon.

“The incident with Jake Allen and Charles Wright last week will add a little bit of extra spice to the meeting.

“The clashes between Scunthorpe and Redcar at the EWR are always very close affairs – back on Good Friday, we beat them by 46-44. I’m expecting another exciting contest, plus it will be the last chance for the supporters to see Scorpions in action until next spring.”

In-form Bears reserve Ace Pijper said: “I like the Scunthorpe track, we don’t want to go to Scunthorpe and lose for the second time this season so hopefully we can turn the tables on the Scorpions.

“It’s going well for me at the moment,but I’ve got to keep focused and not get carried away and then things should continue.”
