PREVIEW: SCUNTHORPE v POOLE (CAB DIRECT CHAMP)

SCUNTHORPE host runaway leaders Poole in a big clash of two of the top three in the Cab Direct Championship tonight (Friday).

The Pirates are eight points clear at the top whilst the Scorpions are in a tight pack battling for play-off qualification.

Both sides are at full strength for the meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway, a venue where the Dorset outfit have been successful on their previous two visits – but their last away match saw them defeated at Workington last weekend.

Scorpions promoter Rob Godfrey said: “Every season, our home match with Poole is one not to be missed at the Eddie Wright Raceway – it’s always a closely-fought match.

“We know we need to be at the top of our game, because Poole have an attractive team, right down to having one of the latest sensations to hit British speedway – the very talented 16-year-old Will Cairns – at No 7.

“But I know if our lads all perform, that the Ellie Rose Travel Scorpions can beat the Pirates. We’ve got ourselves into a play-off position and we intend to stay there.”

Poole promoter Dan Ford said: “They have a pretty solid one-to-seven that all have a liking for the Rob Godfrey-prepared track and so we need to be on our ‘A-game’ from the very off. 

“We can ill-afford to allow them to get away from us, and the best way to counter that is to take the match to them. I have no doubts that we have the quality in our side to do just that.”
