POSTPONED: REDCAR v POOLE (CAB DIRECT CHAMP P/O S/F)

SUNDAY’S scheduled Cab Direct Championship play-off semi-final match betwen Redcar and Poole has been postponed because of a waterlogged track. The meeting has been re-staged for Sunday October 5 (6pm).

REDCAR and Poole contest the first leg of their Cab Direct Championship play-off semi-final at the ECCO Arena tonight (Sunday, 7.30pm).

The sides finished third and second respectively in the regular table and the tie is due to be completed at Wimborne Road on Tuesday, one week after the Pirates’ originally planned staging due to the intervention of the weather.

That means the onus is on the Bears, who bring in Jake Allen to guest for the unwell Erik Riss, to build an advantage on their own circuit, and they take the confidence of seven successive wins into the meeting.

Co-promoter Jamie Swales said: “Poole are a big threat; however, every one of our riders have proven they can beat any of their riders this season. We can’t get hung up on their reputation, we just have to step it up for the play-offs now.

“It’s our best-ever season by finishing third, we are closer to the top this season than the other year we finished third.

“Also, it must be the first time we have reached three semi-finals, and we have already won the Pairs, so it’s our best-ever season but I would be disappointed if we didn’t make some Finals.”

Pirates promoter Dan Ford said: “They are on a strong run of form, which doesn’t surprise me and like us, they are chasing a potential Treble this season, so we know it is going to be tough.

“Redcar is a track where our riders have performed well in the past and we will need those contributions on Sunday, and then again next Tuesday as we attempt to continue the defence of our league title.”
