PREVIEW: POOLE v REDCAR (BSN SERIES S/F)
POOLE and Redcar clash in the first leg of their BSN Series semi-final tonight (Wednesday) – which means a return to Wimborne Road for Danny King.
The 2016 British Champion led the Pirates to a string of honours in 2021/22 before making the move to the Bears last winter, where he and Charles Wright have formed a strong spearhead.
But the Teesside outfit will still be without Erik Riss who remains on the sidelines due to illness, and they will operate rider replacement at No.1.
The Pirates also have r/r in force for Anders Rowe, who is in international duty with Great Britain ahead of Thursday’s FIME European Under-23 Team semi-final in Germany.
Poole promoter Dan Ford said: “I like their team. It’s a good team. Obviously they have an incredibly strong top three which has been the kind of approach we have gone for in the past couple of seasons, but we have gone slightly different this year.
“I’m looking forward to this meeting. I think it is going to be our biggest test so far this season. Seeing Danny King back around Wimborne Road will be something special.”
Redcar boss Gavin Parr said: “Danny and Charles are arguably in the form of their lives at the moment so that will help, but we are really disappointed that we have to use r/r at No.1 for Erik, but we do have a guest lined up for the return on Saturday.
“As Erik’s absence has went on and on, I had it in the back of my mind that we would be unable to secure a guest at some point; unfortunately for us it has come at the worst possible time with our biggest meeting of the season so far.
“Our German star was getting better but in the days after his lumbar puncture his brain fog has returned, and we are no closer to knowing when he will return.”
POOLE: Steve Worrall, Anders Rowe r/r, Ben Cook, Zach Cook, Richard Lawson, Kyle Newman, Adam Roynon, Sam Hagon (no.8).
REDCAR: Erik Riss r/r, Danyon Hume, Charles Wright, Connor Bailey, Danny King, Jason Edwards, Jake Mulford.
