PREVIEW: OXFORD v GLASGOW (CAB DIRECT CHAMP)
OXFORD and Glasgow are both looking to make progress in the Cab Direct Championship play-off race when they clash at Cowley tonight (Wednesday).
The Cheetahs lost out at Workington last weekend but a win over the Tigers would take them level on points with fourth-placed Plymouth.
Meanwhile the Ashfield club race the second match of a vital spell of four matches in eight days, and will go into the top four with a win having suffered the frustration of a narrow defeat at Berwick last time out.
Oxford hand a home debut to recent signing Edward Kennett and hope to be at full strength pending a fitness test for Luke Killeen, whilst Glasgow have their regular one-to-seven in place.
Cheetahs boss Peter Schroeck said: “We head into the match knowing it’s a meeting that we need to win.
“Winning at home is important in any case, plus it will give us some momentum heading into the away meetings this weekend, and also the home match to Redcar next Wednesday.
“Glasgow cannot be under-estimated, but we know if we ride to our abilities around the BetGoodwin Oxford Stadium, that we can beat them.”
Tigers manager Cami Brown said: “It’s fair to say we’ve not hit the heights so far. But the boys want to get it right and get the results we need. We need to fight for everything. Simple as that.
“Perhaps the most frustrating element is that I feel we are a whisker away from getting the wins we require. It’s just the odd silly heat setback here and there that is costing us big time.
“The inconsistency is very frustrating for us all. We’ve shown at some times that we can be a really good side individually. But it’s getting to the point where we have to come up with strong results if we are going to make it into the top four. That starts at Oxford.”
