PREVIEW: OXFORD v BERWICK (CAB DIRECT CHAMP)
OXFORD kick off the second half of their Cab Direct Championship campaign with a home clash against Berwick at Cowley tonight (Wednesday).
The Cheetahs remain third in the league table despite going a month without a fixture, and they will look to extend their unbeaten home record with victory over the bottom-placed Bandits.
Oxford reserve Adam Roynon is still ruled out with shoulder trouble so Jody Scott from the club’s NDL team once again stands in at No.7.
Meanwhile former Berwick skipper Leon Flint makes a guest appearance for his old club, in place of the injured Rory Schlein, whilst Joe Thompson comes in for Bastian Borke.
The visitors include Lewis Kerr and Drew Kemp, both of whom ironically have recently been released from Oxford’s top-flight line-up.
Cheetahs boss Peter Schroeck said: “It’s nice that the first meeting back for the Cheetahs is a home meeting, because all our boys love riding around Oxford and our home form is strong.
“Berwick have had injury problems and are currently bottom of the table, but we won’t under-estimate them.”
Bandits manager Stewart Dickson said: “It’s a tough fixture to come back to. They are a good side but most of our riders have done well at Cowley in the past and, of course, Lewi and Drew might have a point to prove to the Oxford management.
“If we can’t win at Oxford then we need to work for every point to give us an opportunity for the bonus at Shielfield.”
