POSTPONED: EDINBURGH v WORKINGTON (MAXiCAB KO CUP)

THE MAXiCab KO Cup clash between Edinburgh and Workington on Friday has been postponed due to rain and a poor forecast. New date to be confirmed.

EDINBURGH and Workington are set to meet twice in under 24 hours as they launch the MAXiCab KO Cup for the new season.

The Monarchs stage the first leg of the first-round tie at Armadale tonight (Friday) before a quick turnaround sees the sides meet in Cumbria on Saturday lunchtime.

Polish signing Oskar Polis makes his home debut for Edinburgh, who were encouraged by their Scottish Cup win at Glasgow last Friday, whilst the Comets race for the first time as a team with Fraser Bowes, Jye Etheridge, Jacob Hook and Vinnie Foord all in as new signings this season.

Edinburgh boss Alex Harkess said: “Workington did very well last year, but they haven’t had a match this season yet. They had the Pairs at their own track and didn’t do as well as I thought they might have.

“They’ve got good riders in their team and up till last weekend they may have thought they would have an easy tie against us – but I doubt they think that now.

“It’s up to us, I’m not worrying too much about what Workington are going to do, I’m just worrying about what we are going to do.”

Workington manager James Denham said: “This is a really tough opening tie, but we’re ready. I think the team we have signed for this year is once again a mixed bag of experience and youth.

“Our aim is always to win, but keeping the scoreline close for the second leg on Saturday at Northside is very important if we want to progress.”

EDINBURGH: Justin Sedgmen, Jonatan Grahn, Kye Thomson, Oskar Polis, Paco Castagna, Victor Palovaara, Max James.

WORKINGTON: Troy Batchelor, Fraser Bowes, Tate Zishcke, Jye Etheridge, Antti Vuolas, Jacob Hook, Vinnie Foord.

SCB Referee: Mick Bates
