PREVIEW: EDINBURGH v POOLE (CAB DIRECT CHAMP PO SF)

EDINBURGH boss Alex Harkess says his side will give their very best as they face a 24-point deficit heading into the second leg of their Cab Direct Championship play-off semi-final against Poole tonight (Friday).

The defending champions travel north with a 57-33 advantage to put them in pole position to progress, but there was no shortage of effort from the Monarchs at Wimborne Road in the opener.

Both sides are at full strength and unchanged, with the aggregate winners to face Scunthorpe or Glasgow in the Final.

Harkess said: “We can only give the best we possibly can. It’s a tall order and there’s no disputing that at all.

“Nothing changes, if everybody performs at their best it’ll be interesting. Unfortunately in the first leg despite the tremendous effort that was put in, we didn’t get the points required.”

Poole co-promoter Dan Ford said: “Our result on Wednesday was excellent. The lads dug real deep over the latter heats and to convert a ten point lead at the interval into a 24-point advantage was impressive, by any standards.

“We just need to finish the job, but we cannot have the attitude that it is a foregone conclusion. We have certainly made it difficult for Edinburgh but we are not over the line quite yet.

“We go into another meeting wanting to win it, but the Edinburgh riders will be fired up and we don’t want them making the headlines on Friday night.”

EDINBURGH: Kye Thomson, Jonatan Grahn, Justin Sedgmen, Paco Castagna, Dan Thompson, Mitch Cluff, Jordy Loftus.

POOLE: Richard Lawson, Will Cairns, Lewis Kerr, Cooper Rushen, Zach Cook, Slater Ligthtcap, Kyle Newman.
