PREVIEW: BERWICK v GLASGOW (BSN SERIES)

BERWICK manager Stewart Dickson believes strength in reserve will be key as they open their team season at home to Glasgow in the BSN Series tonight (Saturday).

Dickson feels the Bandits are better placed at both top and bottom of their side with their new top two of Peter Kildemand and Craig Cook make their home debuts, whilst Dayle Wood and Sam Hagon form a new reserve combination.

The Tigers include three former Bandits riders in captain Chris Harris, Leon Flint and Freddy Hodder, the latter having ridden for Berwick last season.

Dickson said: “With no disrespect to who we had, I would say that Peter and Craig give us a stronger spearhead while Drew Kemp needs to, and looks capable of, continuing the progress he showed last year.

“I have no hesitation in saying that Dayle Wood is the best two-pointer in the Championship this season.

“Forget his age, Dayle has only been riding speedway seriously for a few years and his progress last year, after Craig set him up on new frames, was superb.

“But it’s easy to talk about it, we now need the riders to put it into practice on the track. Glasgow will always be a tough team to face, but we have the chance to put an early marker down.”

Tigers manager Cami Brown said: “It was massively disappointing that our fixture at Ashfield was rained off last night. I think our younger boys need more bike time, so that was a blow. 

“Nonetheless we will go to Shielfield confident of giving them a close encounter. 

“It’s going to be a really interesting meeting and we need to try and get our BSN Series off to the best possible start.”
