PIRATES SECURE BSN SILVERWARE
POOLE have retained the BSN Series trophy after an emphatic 40-point aggregate win over Scunthorpe in the Final.
The Pirates already led by 16 points from the away leg and then raced to a 57-33 victory at Wimborne Road on Wednesday, officially securing the silverware with four races remaining.
Richard Lawson completed an unbeaten performance across the tie with another 14+1 paid maximum, and captain Ben Cook returned from injury with a 12-point maximum from four rides.
The Scorpions were depleted with Kyle Howarth absent after the birth of his son, along with fellow heat-leader Michael Palm Toft being sidelined. Skipper Simon Lambert top scored with 8+1 and their two race wins were taken by guest reserve Jake Mulford.
Poole manager Neil Middleditch said: “It’s always nice to win a trophy. This competition started in the early weeks of the season and I was just pleased that we had a good racing surface tonight with the weather being kind.
“I love winning trophies with Poole. I didn’t do too well as a rider but as a manager it has not been too bad.
“I love the job. I’ve been doing it for a long time now and I never get tired of winning.”
Scorpions promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We tried to bring back a bit of respectability back into the scoreline tonight, and we did the best we could with the tools we had.
“Guests are very hard to find at this stage of the season, and our thanks to Jake and Leon (Flint) for coming in and trying their hardest, which they did, as did all the boys.
“When we reflect on this season, we will realise that we’ve had a pretty good season, reaching the semi-finals of all three main competitions, and got as far as the Final in the case of the BSN Series.”
