PIRATES PLEASED WITH DRAW

POOLE star Kyle Newman says the Dorset side should be content with their BSN Series semi-final draw against Redcar.

Newman had a successful spell with the Bears in the second half of last season, which ironically included a KO Cup Final clash between the clubs, won by the Pirates – who were captained by Danny King, who has since switched to the North-East outfit.

Said Newman: “It’s not a bad one for us, Richard (Lawson) has been guesting there a lot this year and I enjoyed my time up there last season too.

“We also have Adam (Roynon) who rode for them last season, so we have plenty of experience to take with us when we go up.

“We are in good form right now, but our game plan is always to just take one race, one meeting at a time.”

Dates have been confirmed for the tie, with the Pirates hosting the first leg at Wimborne Road on Wednesday May 17, and the return at the Ecco Arena 48 hours later on May 19.

Meanwhile, this Friday’s scheduled Cab Direct Championship clash between Scunthorpe and Glasgow will now become the first leg of their BSN Series semi-final after the sides were paired in Sunday evening’s draw. The return at Ashfield is also on May 19.
