PIRATES CUP KINGS AGAIN

POOLE secured their first silverware of 2025 with a comprehensive 51-39 win at Redcar to lift the MAXiCab Knockout Cup – taking the trophy for the fourth time in five years.

The Pirates led the tie by 14 points from the home leg and then dominated the return on Teesside to take their second victory in the space of a week at the north-east venue.

The Pirates led on the night from the first race when home No.1 Charles Wright was disqualified after clashing with Tobias Thomsen, and their aggregate victory was secured with a win for Lewis Kerr in Heat 12, with only one point required from the race.

Richard Lawson completed a perfect Cup Final by racing to a 15-point maximum to follow on from his paid maximum on Wednesday, and skipper Zach Cook dropped just one point from five rides as he finished on 12+2.

Bears reserve Ace Pijper collected two wins early in the meeting and top-scored with 9+1, and he also walked away from a heavy crash in Heat 8.

Lawson said: “Poole seem to step up that one bit when it comes to finals, and I feel like I did the same, especially going through the card in both legs, so I’m chuffed to bits.

“I think we’ve all clicked at the right time, and the target at the start of the year was to defend that Treble.

“Now we’ve put ourselves in a good position, and it’s one down, two to go!”
