PIRATES BEATEN AT PLYMOUTH

POOLE’S unbeaten run in the Cab Direct Championship is over after they went down 47-43 at Plymouth in a last heat decider on Saturday.

The Pirates required a 5-1 from Heat 15 to salvage what would have been a third draw of the league campaign, but although Richard Lawson won the race home duo Scott Nicholls and Danny King kept Lewis Kerr at the back.

The Gladiators led for the first time after Heat 9 before being pulled back level three races later, but the decisive moments came when they recorded 4-2s in Heats 13 and 14.

Nicholls (12+1) and King (10+1) led the scoring for the hosts, with Lawson (11) and Kerr (10) best for the visitors.
Kerr said: “Overall I was happy with my performance. It was just in that last one I didn’t manage to score points, but on the first bend me and Danny hit each other which sent me to the back.

“We would have loved to have got the 5-1, but there we go. It was always going to be very tough without Zach (Cook), but we ran them close and we’ve still got to have them at home, so we beat them there and hopefully we should get the aggregate point. Well, that’s the plan!”
