PIRATES BACK ON TOP

POOLE star Ben Cook stormed to a 15-point maximum as his side went back to the top of the Cab Direct Championship with a big win over Birmingham.

Brother Zach Cook with 8+4 was also unbeaten until Heat 15 of a dominant Pirates display as they racked up a 57-33 victory, winning all but four races throughout the meeting.

Justin Sedgmen supplied three wins for the Brummies as he scored 14 from six rides, with their other success coming from Troy Batchelor (9+1).

Poole are now two points ahead of Oxford with their final regular fixture to come at Edinburgh next Wednesday, whilst the Cheetahs face Scunthorpe at home and Glasgow away.

Zach Cook said: “It was a good night but a bit disappointing to end the way it did for me. I had two starts in Heat 14 and then straight out again in Heat 15, and the clutches get a bit hot when they are doing so much so close to each other and I just suffered a burnt out clutch and it just didn’t go out of the start.

“I feel as though I have been making things a bit hard for myself over the last few weeks by not making the starts the way I had liked, but it is good when things work and everyone moves out the way when you want to come through.”
