MONARCHS WIN AT GLASGOW

EDINBURGH completed a memorable weekend with a 48-42 win at close rivals Glasgow to put themselves in the driving seat at the halfway stage of the Scottish Cup.

The Monarchs enjoyed a second victory of 2026 at Ashfield, taking the honours in  a last-heat decider which saw Kye Thomson take the flag with Dan Thompson in third place.

Thomson top scored with 12 whilst Thompson added 11 on his old home track. Chris Harris led the way for the Tigers with 11+2, whilst Kevin Juhl Pedersen walked away from a heavy crash in Heat 14.

Thomson said: “Everyone was keen and we really wanted to win. It was actually quite similar to last time here, we know what to expect and what we needed to do.

“To finish off with an advantage in Heat 15 is awesome as well. It definitely wasn’t easy, I lost my steel shoe so I think I almost pulled my hamstring trying to keep my foot off the ground, so it maybe wasn’t smooth or pretty, but we got the job done.”

Glasgow manager Cami Brown said: “I’m obviously hugely disappointed with the result. Ultimately it came down to the use of guests and sadly for us Drew (Kemp) didn’t have a night to remember. 

“That’s always the risk when you lose your No.1. Kyle (Howarth) would have scored double figures and we would have won comfortably with him.

“We’ve left ourselves a mountain to climb in the second leg at Armadale but we are more than capable of achieving it.”
