COMETS SOAR AGAINST TIGERS

WORKINGTON are off the mark in the Cab Direct Championship after a home win and aggregate point over title holders Glasgow.

The Comets won 49-41 at the GT Tyres Arena, and with the aggregate scores level heading into the last race, Troy Batchelor and Craig Cook combined for a 5-1 to complete a strong showing from the hosts.

Batchelor impressed with 14 points and Cook scored 10+2 with his only defeat coming due to mechanical trouble in Heat 13.

The Tigers needed a 5-1 from the last race to set up a Super Heat but were unable to take anything from the day, with Chris Harris (11) and Steve Worrall (10+1) leading their scorechart.

Cooper Rushen (250cc) and Oliver Bovington (125cc) then took the honours in the opening round of the British Youth Championship.
