COMETS END ON A HIGH

WORKINGTON climbed off the foot of the Cab Direct Championship with a 47-43 win over Redcar in their final fixture of the season.

The Bears led by eight points at the halfway stage but as has been the story of their campaign, they were unable to maintain the advantage.

The Comets levelled with a 5-1 from Tate Zischke and Vinnie Foord in Heat 12, and with the scores level at 42-42 with one race remaining Jonas Jeppesen and Troy Batchelor defeated Charles Wright and Jake Allen in the decider.

Jeppesen scored 13 for the home side with Batchelor on 12+1 as they moved ahead of Oxford in the final standings, whilst Wright notched 11 for the Bears who have had to settle for sixth in the table. They will defend their BSN Series crown against Poole during the coming week.
