COMETS COMEBACK DEFEATS CHEETAHS

WORKINGTON recovered from a slow start to defeat Oxford 49-41 in another significant result for the Cab Direct Championship play-off race.

The Comets trailed by six points after two races but they were level by mid-meeting, and a key 5-1 from Troy Batchelor and Antti Vuolas in Heat 13 was backed up in the next race by Jacob Hook and Jye Etheridge as the home side took the points.

Vuolas scored 11+3 for the Comets with Jye Etheridge and Jacob Hook (both 10+1) also in double figures, whilst Sam Masters led the Cheetahs’ scoring with 10+1.

The result is a serious blow to Oxford’s hopes of overhauling either Edinburgh or Redcar as they have just three matches remaining – including facing both of the current top two – whilst Workington remain bottom, but with multiple matches still in hand they do retain hopes of a push towards the top four.
