COMETS’ CHASE GOES ON

WORKINGTON stunned title hopefuls Glasgow with a 56-34 win at the GT Tyres Arena which keeps their own play-off hopes alive.

The Comets need to win all of their remaining matches to have a chance, and the first of four was a tough encounter against the Tigers who were looking to claim spot in the Cab Direct Championship.

But the home side, who had also beaten leaders Poole at home last month, opened the meeting with three successive 5-1s and extended their advantage for much of the evening with Glasgow’s only success coming in Heat 5 with maximum points from Chris Harris and guest Jason Edwards.

Fraser Bowes (14) and Antti Vuolas (13+1) starred for the home side, who now need to keep winning when they face Berwick home and away next weekend. Kyle Howarth top-scored for the Tigers with 9+2.

Glasgow boss Cami Brown said: “It was a terrible day at the office after such a good win at Edinburgh.

“It’s a big reality check before we go to a massive meeting at Poole on Wednesday.

“We knew it was going to be hard but I think it’s given the boys a kick up the backside. 

“I’m not sure whether it was just a hangover from such a strong performance at Edinburgh. But no matter what, that’s no excuse.”
