CLOSE WIN FOR GLADIATORS
FORMER Edinburgh rider Lasse Fredriksen came back to haunt his old club with a crucial contribution at reserve in Plymouth’s Cab Direct Championship 46-44 win over the Monarchs.
Fredriksen piled up 15 points from six rides, including a hat-trick of wins in Heats 10 to 12 as he helped the Gladiators pull back from a mid-meeting deficit of eight points.
Captain Ben Barker then got the hosts over the line with wins in Heats 13 and 15, backed up by Nicolai Klindt and then Joe Thompson for 4-2s to snatch the narrow win.
Kye Thomson scored 12+2 for the Monarchs who had been 28-20 up after Heat 8, operating rider replacement for Oskar Polis who quit the club the previous night.
Edinburgh manager John Campbell said: “A greatly improved performance compared to many we’ve given this season, but it was pretty much in our hands and we threw it away.
“But it was a battling performance and disappointing that we couldn’t carry it through to the finish.
“The most positive things were that Kye Thomson was very, very good and Jonatan Grahn who was down and out after last night, was a completely changed man tonight.”
