CHEETAHS WIN; BEARS MAKE POINT

OXFORD turned the tables on Redcar with their own comeback for a 46-44 victory in the Cab Direct Championship – although the Bears gained consolation with the aggregate point.

Just as in the reverse fixture last Friday the home side on the night found themselves eight points down, but the Cheetahs levelled by Heat 11 with a mechanical failure for Bears guest Danny King whilst he was leading that race proving crucial.

The home side then edged ahead with a 4-2 in Heat 12 before Sam Masters completed a paid maximum (14+1) with wins in Heats 13 and 15 to get the hosts over the line.

Anders Rowe was also in double figures with 11, whilst reserve Jake Mulford led the Redcar scoring, as he notched 11.
With the aggregate scores level Masters then won the subsequent Super Heat, but second and third places for King and Jake Allen over Rowe enabled the Bears to take the aggregate point.

Masters said: “It was a good, battling performance by the boys. It’s tough when you’re using rider replacement and it’s hot like today, but we dug deep and took the victory.

“It wasn’t easy, and we’d have liked the aggregate point as well, because we were good enough to take it, but towards the end, gates 2 and 4 were hard. But winning is the main thing and we got the job done.”
