CHEETAHS ON THE UP

OXFORD moved up to third place in the Cab Direct Championship with a comfortable 55-35 win over Berwick at Cowley.

Cheetahs captain Sam Masters scored a 15-point maximum with his side going ten points clear in the opening three races to take full control of the meeting.

Masters was backed up by a strong team display, including at reserve where Luke Killeen (8+2) and Francis Gusts (7) had supremacy over the visitors.

Peter Kildemand scored 12 for the Bandits and Craig Cook marked his return with 10+1, but along with Drew Kemp (9+1) their top three scored all but four of their points.

Killeen said: “Personally, I’ve had a great night and had to work hard for each and every point that I scored. I’ve proven to myself and everyone else that I can still do it.

“I had a rough patch, but I think it’s coming together for me. I’m still finding my feet in some of the Premiership meetings for Spires, but it’s coming good now.

“We all gave it our all from one-to-seven tonight and we all scored points and we picked up a good win. We’re now third in the league – if we keep chipping away, we can reach those play-offs and then anything is possible.”

Berwick boss Stewart Dickson said: “We got off to a very bad start, or Oxford got off to a very good start depending on the way you look at it.

“We battled away, and had a bit of a mini-rally, but you look at the programme and you see where we were outscored tonight. Congratulations to Peter and his team, it wasn’t our night.”
