CHEETAHS MAKE WINNING START

OXFORD opened their Cab Direct Championship campaign with an impressive 52-38 win over Redcar at Cowley.

Heat leaders Scott Nicholls (13) and Sam Masters (10+3) led the way for the Cheetahs, who were without Lewis Kerr, whilst Jordan Jenkins contributed 7+3 in the middle order.

Redcar, like the hosts, were without one of their top men with Erik Riss still sidelined, and Danny King was top scorer with four wins in five for a 12-point haul.

Nicholls said: “I’m really pleased. Redcar are a good side and we’ve beaten them well.

“It was fantastic team performance from the whole side. We’re a seven-man team and all seven riders contributed.

“Personally, my 13 points were nice, although of course you want to go home with a maximum. But when you don’t go home with a maximum, you want to stop all the opposing riders from doing it as well. Danny is a good gater and a very good rider, so it was good when Sam and I beat him in Heat 13.”
