CHEETAHS KEEP IT GOING
OXFORD consolidated their position in the Cab Direct Championship’s top four with a 51-39 home win over Plymouth.
Skipper Scott Nicholls scored a 13+2 paid maximum for the Cheetahs, who are in third place and have now opened up a six-point gap on the sides outside the play-off places.
Sam Masters added 13+1 for the home side as he twice combined with Nicholls for 5-1s in the closing stages, and the Oxford No.1 dropped his only point to an inspired Dan Thompson.
The Plymouth youngster racked up a superb 15 from six rides, with the best support coming from his twin brother Joe who was unbeaten in three of his four outings as he scored 8+1.
Nicholls said: “I’m delighted to score a maximum, but more importantly it was a good win for the team.
“You’ve got to give credit to Plymouth, because they pushed us. On paper, they’re not the strongest team, but it just goes to show that you can’t take anything for granted and every team can perform.
“But we showed our strength and we took the win and the margin we managed to build up at the end may prove crucial when we go down to their place at the end of the month.”
