CHEETAHS INTO KO CUP SEMIS
OXFORD are through to the Championship KO Cup semi-finals following a 45-45 draw at Edinburgh on Friday.
The Cheetahs took an 18-point first leg lead into the meeting and made sure of progression in double-quick time, flying into a 27-15 advantage on the night before the Monarchs fought back in the second half.
Scott Nicholls kept up his superb early-season form with a 12-point maximum for the visitors, and Sam Masters added 11 on his old home track with Justin Sedgmen on 10. Guest Richie Worrall picked up 10 for the hosts.
Cheetahs boss Peter Schroeck said: “We were leading by 12 points after just seven heats, so we all shared a bit of disappointment not to win on the night.
“But we’re in the next round and the boys did exactly what was asked of them, so we can’t be too harsh on ourselves at all.
“Edinburgh is a specialist track, so to only allow them to be in front during one race out of 15 is a great effort. Everyone pulled together and I’m thrilled with the team’s enthusiasm and commitment in the last 48 hours.”
Edinburgh manager Alex Harkess said: “We were never in the tie with a chance to be honest, but at least the team showed some fight after a dreadful start to the night.
“Heat 13 between Scott Nicholls and Richie Worrall was a wonderful race.”
