CAB DIRECT CHAMPIONSHIP GRAND FINAL DATES

TITLE holders Poole have confirmed the date for their home leg of the Cab Direct Championship Grand Final.

The Pirates led the league table ahead of the play-offs and then booked their place in the Final by winning Group A where they overcame Scunthorpe and Edinburgh.

Their opponents are still to be confirmed with Group B now a straight fight between Glasgow and Oxford, which is to be resolved at Ashfield next Tuesday (October 3).

The Tigers, who crucially won at Redcar on Wednesday to keep their hopes alive, require match and aggregate points from the meeting to overhaul the Cheetahs, who travel with a 10-point advantage and require just that aggregate point to go through.

Poole have exercised their right to take the second leg of the Grand Final, which will take place at Wimborne Road on Wednesday October 11 (7.30pm).

Should Glasgow be victorious in Group B the first leg against the Pirates would take place on Friday October 6 (7.30pm); whilst a potential Oxford/Poole Final would get underway at Cowley on Sunday October 8 (6.15pm start).

Poole promoter Dan Ford said: “We’ll be watching next Tuesday’s match at Glasgow with great interest, and whoever reaches the Final we know it’s going to be a tough contest.

“We’ve had a great battle with Oxford throughout the season to top the league table, and of course there’s been a real rivalry built up between ourselves and Glasgow over the last couple of seasons.

“So whoever it is, I think it promises to be a terrific Final. We are determined to retain the title and we’re really looking forward to it.”

1st leg: Oxford v Poole (prov) – Sunday October 8, 6.15pm
