BEARS WIN BANDITS CRACKER

REDCAR remain on course for the Cab Direct Championship play-offs – despite losing the aggregate point to Berwick in a tremendous finish at the ECCO Arena.

The Bears edged a 47-43 win from a thrilling encounter which boiled up into a brilliant Heat 15 with all four riders racing into the second lap level before Charles Wright and Danny King established themselves in a 4-2 position.

Second place for Jonas Jeppesen, who had won Heat 14 as a tactical substitute to bring the Bandits back into contention, was enough for the visitors to take their first aggregate point of the season.

Wright and King both scored 13 for Redcar, who are two points ahead of fifth placed Oxford and also have a home match in hand, whilst the result leaves the Bandits six points adrift of the play-offs with five matches to go. Jeppesen scored 12+2 with Drew Kemp on 10+1 and Peter Kildemand picked up 10.

Berwick co-promoter Steven Dews said: “We showed a lot of determination tonight and were a bit unfortunate with one or two things.

“Now it is a question of staying focussed for our remaining five fixtures, starting with Scunthorpe on Saturday, and seeing where we end up.”
