BEARS THROUGH IN STYLE

REDCAR sealed their place in the BSN Series semi-finals in emphatic fashion with a 54-36 win at Workington to confirm themselves as Northen group winners.

Danny King scored a 12-point maximum for the Bears, who stunned their hosts with four 5-1s in the opening five races to take complete control of the meeting.

Erik Riss (12) and captain Charles Wright (10+2) were also in double figures with Wright’s only dropped points coming when he was disqualified from Heat 11 after clashing with Antti Vuolas.

The Finn scored eight for the Comets but was then withdrawn from the closing stages of the match with a leg injury.

Redcar join fellow group winners Glasgow and Oxford in the semi-finals of the competition with holders Poole also making it through as best runners-up, edging out Scunthorpe on race points difference.
