BEARS SECURE LAST-HEAT WIN

REDCAR raced to a third win in four Cab Direct Championship matches as they overcame Edinburgh 49-41 at the ECCO Arena.

A close meeting went down to a last-heat decider with four points between the sides, and in that race Bears captain Charles Wright and the returning Danny King took a 5-1 over Paco Castagna and Josh Pickering.

Wright top-scored for a solid Redcar side with 12+1 and King added 10+1 whilst Edinburgh had the majority of race winners with Castagna collecting 11 points and Pickering 10+1, but they were outscored lower down the order.

Wright said: “They were close the whole night and we needed just to get a 3-3 in the last one, but I saw Danny over my shoulder in the first bend so I thought I’d stick to the inside and give Danny the track to do what he wanted.

“We’ve had a couple of losses at home and we need to pick something up on the road. People are dropping points now in the table, so there’s still a chance, but we need to get something on the road now.”

Monarchs boss John Campbell said: “It’s disappointing having battled so hard to keep the scores close that we could not finish off the job.

“Josh Pickering was disappointed and always feels he can score better, but to be honest there were others we needed more points from.”
