BEARS ON THE CHASE

REDCAR are hot on the heels of Scunthorpe in the BSN Series Northern group after a 52-38 win at Birmingham on Wednesday.

The Bears followed on from the Scorpions one week earlier in being victorious at Perry Barr, setting up a potentially crucial meeting at home to Scunthorpe tomorrow (Friday).

Richard Lawson proved a successful guest in the West Midlands, scoring 13+1 as he stood in for the unwell Erik Riss, with Danny King collecting 11+3 in a solid all-round show from the visitors.

Nick Morris scored 12 for the Brummies and Zach Cook added 10+2 but they still await their first win of the season.

Birmingham boss Laurence Rogers said: “There were a few positives for some of the boys to take away with them and Zach Cook was excellent as guest once again – I’m just disappointed we couldn’t get anything out of it in the end after pulling back so close.

“We need to get things right before the league starts and it would be nice if we could do that in the Cup next week.”
