BANDITS WIN SHIELFIELD CLASSIC

BERWICK No.1 Peter Kildemand made a sensational return from injury to inspire a dramatic 46-44 win over Glasgow at Shielfield Park.

Kildemand ran a last place in his first ride but then won his next five, including the decisive Heat 15 as the Bandits recovered from an early eight-point deficit to take the Cab Direct Championship points.

There was also a hugely successful debut for Jordan Jenkins, who racked up 13+1 from six rides at reserve to back up Kildemand’s 15-point total, whilst Chris Harris (11+2) and Leon Flint (11) led the scoring for the Tigers but lost out to Kildemand in the crucial final race.

Berwick boss Stewart Dickson said: “Individually a number of riders had off-nights, but collectively they stuck to their task and got the job done.

“Everybody played a part, but Jordan and Peter were quite outstanding.

“We haven’t raced at home for six weeks and I think that showed, but when it all comes down to it we have two points on the board against what is always one of the best visiting teams to Shielfield.”

Glasgow manager Cami Brown said: “It’s a very frustrating result, we blew a great chance to get a vital win away from home. I’m absolutely gutted with that one. 

“Heat 14 killed it for us. We were shocked to give away a 5-1 at that stage. 

“But for us it’s massively disappointing to lose the meeting from the position we were in. It’s a win that definitely got away.”
