PREVIEW: BRITISH YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP, Leicester

LEICESTER youngster Ben Trigger is looking to strengthen his bid to become British Youth Champion on home shale today (Monday, 4pm).

The club are hosting the fifth round of the series with Trigger, a member of the club’s National Development League side, aiming to follow in the footsteps of team-mate Dan Thompson to take gold at 500cc class

And in the 250cc category Max James, who regularly does laps at the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena as mascot, leads the way.

There are a total of 27 riders competing across three classes, and both Trigger and Luke Harrison (250cc) look set to clinch their respective titles, whilst Stene Pijper could secure 125cc honours.

British Youth boss Neil Vatcher said: “It would be fantastic for Leicester asset Ben Trigger to win his first British Championship in front of his home supporters, and I hope the Leicester public come out in numbers to support him.

“For Ben to be crowned British Champion he will need to qualify for the Final this afternoon, and a fourth-place finish in the Final will be enough for him – although I know Ben will not settle for fourth and will be determined to continue his rich vein of form and win in front of his home fans.

“In the 250cc class Luke has yet to drop a point in this year’s series and due to the results of the other competitors all he needs to do this afternoon to claim his second title is a sixth-place finish – but like Ben he will be determined to continue winning each of this year’s rounds.

“In the 125cc class Stene Pijper, who is yet to finish outside of a top two finish in the previous four rounds, will need to again finish in at least second place today and depending on other results he will know if that will be enough to claim this year’s British Championship.”
