NEW LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP PLANNED

BSP Ltd Directors and the SCB have supported the proposal to run a British Ladies’ Speedway Championship alongside the British Youth Championship over three rounds from next season.

British Youth Boss and SCB Co-Ordinator Neil Vatcher said: “We have been having discussions over the last few months regarding introducing more riders to the sport, and in line with the recent FIM Women in Motorcycling Speedway Ladies’ Cup which was held in Diedenbergen, Germany, we as a sport are very excited about introducing a Ladies’ Championship.

“Great Britain’s Katie Gordon took part in the FIM Event, and across Europe there are more and more ladies getting involved, which also includes Germany’s Celina Liebmann who took part in the SGP2 first round in Prague and is competing with the very best riders in the world at junior level.

“Not only in motorcycling, but in all sport we have all witnessed the excitement around women in sport recently, none more so than the Lionesses winning the UEFA Euro 22 competition at Wembley last month, and the feel-good factor that the whole nation got from their success.”

The BSP and SCB will be looking at holding Academy days specifically for ladies who would like to get involved, and dates and venues for both the Academy days and the Ladies’ Championship will be announced in due course.

There will be no age restriction to compete in the Championship, and any ladies who would like to register their interest are asked to email [email protected] .
