BUCKLE UP FOR ACADEMY!

THE FIM SGP Academy hold their second Academy of 2025 at the Grand Prix venue of Malilla in Sweden later this week ahead of this weekend’s SGP and SGP2 at the same venue, having already held one in Gillman, Australia in January.

18 riders from eight different countries have applied to take part, which includes Great Britain’s Youth rider Fraser Buckle who is just 12 years old and based near Oxford.

The camp will be hosted by six-times World Speedway Champion Tony Rickardson, ably assisted by four-times World Champion Greg Hancock and former World Cup winner Sweden’s Linus Sundstrom.

The camp is aimed at giving the riders and their families advice on many aspects of the sport which will include sporting and anti-doping regulations, starting and riding techniques, bike preparation, media and social media, sponsorship, fitness and health.

As well as Buckle from the UK, the youngest son of Greg Hancock, Karl will be taking his place representing the USA as well as five riders from the host nation Sweden, two from Romania and one each from Denmark, Finland and the Netherlands.

Buckle said: “I am excited and really looking forward to the camp. This is my first year in speedway and of course I have a lot to learn, so by going to the SGP Academy and having such amazing ex-riders as coaches is going to be a great experience for me.”
