BRITISH YOUTH UPDATE
PLYMOUTH hosted a round of the 2024 British Youth Championship on Saturday solely for the 250cc class, where six riders competed in the second event of the year for this class having previously competed at Workington back in May.
Round 1 winner Cooper Rushen struggled for the right set-up in the qualifying heats, and it was down to Seth Norman and Ollie Binns who dominated the heats with Norman top-scoring with 10 points and Binns claiming three impressive wins on his first competitive meeting riding in the 250cc class.
The pressure was on Rushen in his last qualifying heat having scored just two points from his first three heats, and up against the impressive Norman – who had already defeated Rushen in two previous races – as well as Archie Rolph and home favourite Jayden Bailey, Rushen knew he needed a minimum two points to qualify for the Final.
Fortunately by this stage of the meeting he had found the correct set-up and manged to win his first heat of the day to qualify fourth in the Final.
Norman qualified first for the Final had first pick of the gates, Binns had second pick, Rolph and Rushen had third and fourth pick respectively.
Rushen made no mistake in the Final and although coming off the unfavoured gate four he managed to get in front and never looked back, with Norman taking a safe second place and Rolph and Binns battling for four laps for third place on the rostrum, with Rolph just doing enough to claim third overall.
