YOUNG STARS END WITH WIN

KING’S Lynn ensured a top-half finish in the WSRA National Development League with a 50-40 win at second placed Leicester on Sunday.

The Young Stars’ heat leaders dominated the meeting with skipper Simon Lambert scoring a paid maximum (14+1) whilst Jake Mulford (12) and Dan Gilkes (11) also recorded multiple race wins, whilst the victory was ensured by youngster Ollie Binns winning Heat 14.

The home side were only able to take the chequered flag on two occasions, one of which came from top scorer Ryan Ingram (12) whilst captain Ben Morley added 11+1.

Young Stars boss Jason Pipe said: “Manager Jason Pipe said: “This is the strongest team we’ve had all season, and before we started I had it in my head that I’d be happy with a third place finish overall, because we were the new team coming into the NDL.

“We’ve got to be happy with that performance. Leicester had a couple of injuries but they were still a tough team to beat, and everyone rode to their capabilities.

“Ollie came good in the end with the win in Heat 14 which clinched the meeting for us. I always like to build teams with riders who will progress in the sport, which is why it was a must that we had Ollie in.”

Lion Cubs manager Jen Crossland said: “It was always going to be a tough day especially after Freddy’s (Hodder) injury and with Vinnie (Foord) not being able to ride.

“I’m proud of how the boys battled against a team with three Championship riders. It’s another learning experience for them and they can’t worry too much about the result given who they were facing.”
