PIRATES’ HAPPY HOMECOMING

POOLE star Richard Lawson says clinching the Cab Direct Championship in front of their home fans made Wednesday’s dramatic conclusion even more special.

For the second season running, Lawson and Zach Cook handled the pressure of a Super Heat title decider, as having been successful at Glasgow last season they produced the necessary result to edge out Scunthorpe on this occasion.

Lawson said: “It has been a great team this year. A pleasure to ride with every rider in this team. It’s been a young team but quite refreshing.

“Last season was pretty special, but I remember saying then that the only thing missing was not being able to do it in front of all our own fans.

“Well,  we’ve ticked that box and it is awesome.”
