ROCKETS GROUP SEEK BACKING

CAMPAIGNERS seeking to achieve the resumption of the sport at Rye House have launched a fundraiser for legal representation at a forthcoming planning Appeal.

The Rockets have not raced since 2018 and since then the speedway track has been removed from the Hoddesdon venue with the current occupiers involved in several alleged breaches and enforcement notices over their current use of the site.

Retrospective planning permission to demolish the track has been refused by East Herts Council with open stands having been converted to gymnasiums without prior approval, along with further commercial activities with the site subject to Council Enforcement action.

The occupiers’ Appeal will commence on October 21, and if they are successful it will mean the end of speedway at the venue.

The Rye House Action Group have been granted Rule 6 Party status and will be able to participate in the Appeal, as was the case at Coventry in 2023 when campaigners were successful in seeing an Appeal regarding proposed development at Brandon Stadium refused.

The Group have launched a GoFundMe which can be found at  https://gofund.me/c87ec566e , and they wish to stress that all funds raised will go towards legal representation and support costs and not to any individual.
