HARRIS WINS LONG TRACK FINALE

KING’S Lynn and Glasgow captain Chris Harris has won the third and final round of the FIM Long Track World Championship at Marmande.

It was the second time Harris had triumphed at the French venue, having also done so in 2023, and the result enabled him to climb to third place in the overall standings at the end of the series.

Harris prevented Oxford’s German racer Erik Riss from completing a clean sweep of wins this year, but Riss still did enough to be crowned World Champion for the third time in his career, having returned to the series full-time after a decade away.

Harris said: “I didn’t make the best of drops, but when I got up to speed there was a bit of carnage in that first bend and I managed to push them out.

“I thought I just needed to get in front and then ride my race, and in the last two laps my steel shoe broke and came off, so I was leg trailing and around here it’s hard work because it’s so heavy.

“I’m over the moon with tonight, to finish the season off with a win after the year we’ve had is good, and third overall is a extra bonus.

“The boys work hard in the pits and at home. Thanks to everyone for supporting me – my pit crew, sponsors and the family at home, my wife and the kids are always behind me through the highs and lows.”
