GLADIATORS READY FOR FINAL

PLYMOUTH star Joe Thompson says his side will travel to Berwick on Saturday keen to leave the MAXiCab KO Cup Final in a winnable position at halfway.

The Gladiators are on the road in the first leg as they bid to end the season with silverware, with the trophy to be decided back at the Coliseum in a fortnight (October 10).

They haven’t raced as a team since late August but it does mean they expect to be at full strength at Shielfield Park following Scott Nicholls’ return from injury.

Thompson said: “It’s been a really good year overall for us. We’ve had some great meetings and the support from the crowd has been brilliant all season, so hopefully we can give them something to celebrate in the Cup Final.

“I think injuries have probably stopped us from progressing further in the other competitions. We’ve had our fair share of setbacks, which has made things difficult at times, but everyone has kept going and we’ve still got an opportunity to finish the season with some silverware.

“We’re really looking forward to the Final now. Berwick is never an easy place to go, but we’ll head up there determined to give it everything and put ourselves in the best possible position.

“It would be great to finish the year by winning the Cup. We know there’s still plenty of hard work ahead of us, but the whole team will be up for it and hopefully we can put in a strong performance.”
