PIC OF THE WEEK…

JODY Scott scored a 15-point maximum to lift the British Under-19 title at Plymouth on Saturday.
Scott reeled off five wins out of five, the most crucial of which came when he met the similarly unbeaten Cooper Rushen in Heat 17 with both riders having 12 points at that stage.
From gate two it was Scott who took the advantage as he and Rushen contested the first bend, and that saw him secure the title with his King’s Lynn team-mate having to be content with runners-up spot.
Last year’s winner Luke Harrison was third on 13 points and with Will Cairns fourth on 12 it meant it was the same four riders taking the top four places as in 2025, albeit in a different order.
Best of the rest were Ryan Ingram and Jordy Loftus, who both scored creditable ten point totals.
Scott said: “There were so many emotions when I came back in. Obviously I was second last year, third in 2024 and finally I’ve topped it off in my last year in it, so it’s an unreal moment.”

ROWE MOTOR OIL PREMIERSHIP LATEST

HOW IT STANDS
BELLE Vue have a huge advantage at the halfway stage of their play-off semi-final after a thumping 52-38 win at Ipswich on Monday… The second semi-final between Sheffield and Leicester gets underway on Thursday… Northampton and King’s Lynn will now meet on October 6 in the final regular league match of 2026, involving the two clubs who did not reach the play-offs.

ACES MARCH ON
FORMER Ipswich star Jason Doyle won three races in a dominant performance by his current club Belle Vue as they seized control of the first leg of their play-off semi-final at Foxhall.
Doyle scored ten points from four rides in a 52-38 victory that makes the Aces massive favourites to progress to the Grand Final when the sides meet again in Manchester next Monday.
Doyle said: “I’ve come back to Ipswich where I’ve been here for four years and we’ve smoked them tonight. We have a really strong team at Belle Vue, all the boys are gelling really well and we’re working well.
“In the last couple of years they’ve come here and got it handed to them, so I’d better be careful! Tonight we’ve turned the tables.”

WITCHES: NO COMPLAINTS
IPSWICH boss Paul Hurry says their only option is to head to Belle Vue with open mind after a heavy home play-off defeat to the league leaders on Monday.
The Witches face the enormous task of trying to become the first team this season to win at the National Speedway Stadium, and also to overturn a 14-point deficit.
Hurry said: “There is no pressure on us now. We are definitely going there as the underdogs. At the end of the day, they just have to do what they do and what they are capable of doing.
“The pressure is off, so they can just enjoy their riding. If they want to try things they didn’t think would work earlier in the season, now is the time to try them.”

TIGERS TO CUT OUT GREMLINS
SHEFFIELD endured a nervous night at home to Northampton before securing their play-off place – and boss Simon Stead hopes their mechanical problems are behind them.
The Tigers defeated the Foxes 50-39 to move up to third position in the final table, and it’s perennial rivals Leicester who are next up in the play-offs.
Stead said: “It was tighter than we would’ve liked but I’m hopeful that we got rid of all the bad luck that we could possibly have had; I’d rather get that out the way this week rather than next week.
“We had a lot of engine related problems in the pits but the boys have the chance over the next few days to get those sorted because we can’t afford for any mechanical mishaps once the play-offs are here.”

LIONS KEEN TO STEP UP
LEICESTER boss Stewart Dickson says his side have to improve on recent performances when they go into play-off action at Sheffield on Thursday.
It’s a repeat of the 2025 semi-final where the Lions mounted a strong comeback at Owlerton before finishing the job at the Hydroscand Arena in the second leg.
Dickson said: “Last year I thought we were favourites, even though I know we were way behind there before we pulled it back.
“This year I don’t think we’ll be labelled favourites by neutrals ahead of this tie, but it all starts from zero and I need all my seven riders to be on form.”

FOXES SAY SORRY
NORTHAMPTON have rearranged their final fixture of the season against King’s Lynn for October 6 after track issues prevented the meeting from starting last week.
Remedial work on the Shaleway circuit leading up to start time proved unsuccessful with both captains and managers agreeing that conditions were not suitable for racing.
Co-promoter Paul Hunsdon said: “There was a stock car meeting last weekend, but we honestly thought it was going to be okay. We did some testing on it earlier, but during the evening it deteriorated.
“Everyone has worked so hard today, and everyone has worked so hard to make this venture a success. We’ve had such good times throughout the season and for this to happen now, I’m so sorry for all our fans and everyone at the club.”

THE WEEK AHEAD…
SHEFFIELD and Leicester kick off their Premiership play-off semi-final at Owlerton on Thursday… Belle Vue are back in home action on Monday holding a 14-point lead over Ipswich as their tie comes to a conclusion.

CAB DIRECT CHAMPIONSHIP LATEST

HOW IT STANDS
POOLE have qualified for the Grand Final where they will be joined by the winners of the Glasgow/Scunthorpe semi-final this Friday… Workington avoided the wooden spoon by beating Redcar in their final fixture, meaning they go ahead of Oxford in the final standings.

LAWSON READY TO FIRE
POOLE No.1 Richard Lawson says he’s ready to complete the job in the Championship Grand Final after the holders got past Edinburgh in the play-offs last week.
Lawson said: “It was nice to open with a winning ride and get the win on the night as well. We can say job done and move into another Final, so I’m happy.
“Like I have admitted, I was definitely a bit subpar on my form, so I wasn’t too happy. But I have got some fresh engines back from service and that helps. They’re really firing good now. So, feeling good, especially this time of year and for the Finals.”

SCORPIONS SKIPPER CONFIDENT
SCUNTHORPE captain Josh Pickering says side can travel to Glasgow on Friday in high spirits with a significant lead to defend in the second leg of their play-off semi-final.
Pickering said: “Earlier in the season, we beat Glasgow by eight points at home, but then we lost by 10 points up there. This time around, we’ve got 16 points to take up there, which is a much better situation for us. It’s going to be tough for Glasgow – I feel it’s now ours to lose.
“For much of the meeting, when we only four or six points ahead, we knew we were playing into their hands for the second leg. But now we’ve got 16 points on them, I don’t think Glasgow will be confident at all.”

TIGERS BID TO CLIMB THE MOUNTAIN
GLASGOW boss Cami Brown expects to see his top riders back to form when they look to pull back a 16-point deficit in the second leg of their play-off semi-final against Scunthorpe.
The Tigers lost 53-37 at the Eddie Wright Raceway earlier this month but Brown believes the target is still achievable.
He said: “We let it slip in the second half of the meeting. We now have a mountain to climb.
“Chris (Harris) and Leon (Flint) have carried the side over the past few weeks, especially in the absence of Kyle Howarth. However, it’s totally out of character and recent form that they both had an off-night.”

CUP FINAL COUNTDOWN
BERWICK have announced Jordan Jenkins is set to miss the first leg of the MAXiCab KO Cup Final against Plymouth on Saturday.
The Bandits will operate rider replacement for Jenkins, whose partner is due to undergo induced labour of their first child on Friday, unless the birth occurs naturally earlier in the week.
Victor Palovaara along with reserves Jack Smith and Reid Battye will be eligible to take Jenkins’ rides in the first leg against the Gladiators, who are set to be at full strength following Scott Nicholls’ recent return from injury.

SWALES STEPS DOWN
REDCAR co-promoter Jamie Swales is leaving his position at the end of the season after seven years in the role.
Swales said: “I’m particularly proud of the position the club is in today. Over recent seasons we have established Redcar as a club that expects to be competitive and challenge for silverware, while at the same time working hard to make sure the club remains sustainable.
“I believe that gives everyone involved something very positive to build upon. I leave immensely proud of what we have achieved and incredibly grateful that I was given the opportunity to do it.”

MONARCHS MISS OUT
EDINBURGH star Dan Thompson says the Monarchs can still be happy with their season despite a play-off semi-final exit.
The Armadale side were well beaten by Poole over two legs but did enjoy a strong campaign as they once again finished in the top four of the Championship.
Thompson said: “I think we’ve done better this year than people thought, but meeting Poole in the semi was tough.
“I’ve really enjoyed this year. It’s such a fun little track, and everyone’s been so kind to me.”

COMETS BACK IN ‘27
WORKINGTON promoter Andrew Bain has confirmed the club will return to the tapes in 2027.
Bain has reassured supporters after a challenging season that plans for next year are already at the forefront of his mind.
He told fans at their final meeting of the season: “We are going to run, and we are coming back to the tapes next year. Thank you all so much for your support — the fans, the volunteers and our fantastic sponsors.”

THE WEEK AHEAD…
REDCAR and Poole are set to resolve the BSN Series this week with their two-legged Final taking place on Tuesday (on Teesside) and Wednesday (at Wimborne Road)… The Pirates’ opponents in the league Grand Final will be determined on Friday when Scunthorpe defend a 16-point lead at Glasgow in the second leg of their semi-final… Berwick and Plymouth face off in the first leg of the MAXiCab KO Cup Final at Shielfield Park on Saturday.

WSRA NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE LATEST

HOW IT STANDS
EDINBURGH have been confirmed as WSRA NDL champions after Leicester’s defeat at Middlesbrough last week, which moved the Tigers up to second place in the table having completed their fixtures. The Monarchs Academy are nine points clear at the top, with the remaining five teams covered by just three points.

JUST CHAMPION!
EDINBURGH manager Scott Wilson paid tribute to his team after their title win was confirmed last week.
The Monarchs Academy have dominate the third tier in 2026 and their next target will be to complete a 100 per cent season with two matches remaining.
Wilson said: “It has been the definition of a team effort. We have had our problems to overcome, we lose Connor (Coles), our captain, before a wheel is even turned and that would have done it for other teams, but I’d say it even brought us closer together.
“You see the improvement in the likes of Jamie (Halder) and Ben (Whalley) and that is down to their talent, but I also believe it is down to being part of this team and that they may not have done that in other teams.
“Again I am just so, so proud of all of them for sticking together and what we have achieved.”

U19 WINNER RETURNS HOME
NEWLY crowned British Under-19 Champion Jody Scott will be back for Oxford Chargers on Sunday when they host champions Edinburgh.
The home side have two matches remaining to complete their WSRA NDL campaign, with a date awaited for the visit of Buxton.
Scott said: “I’m looking forward to bringing the trophy back home to Oxford in the next meeting when the Chargers are riding Edinburgh.”

EDINBURGH race their first match since being crowned champions when they travel to Oxford on Sunday… Buxton stage the Derbyshire Open on the same day, a meeting which was originally postponed due to the weather the day after the Manchester GP back in early June.
