COLES CALLS IT A DAY

CONNOR Coles has announced his retirement from racing as he continues to recover from serious injuries suffered earlier this season.

Coles, who was due to captain Edinburgh Academy in the WSRA National Development League, was involved in a freak accident at Buxton which saw him suffer brain injuries and left him in an induced coma.

He has been making good progress and has been able to attend meetings since his release from hospital, but he has now called time on a career dating back to 2012 which saw him win a number of team honours at NDL level and also spend several seasons in the Championship.

Coles said: “It’s not how I ever wanted things to end, but I have to be realistic about where I’m at. Like every rider, I always thought I’d choose the moment myself, but that choice has been taken out of my hands.

“Speedway has been a massive part of my life. It’s given me good times, tough times, friendships, and experiences I’ll never forget. I’m proud of what I achieved in the sport and proud to have been part of it.

“Right now, my focus is simple – keep working on my recovery and be there for my family.”
