FAST FRIDAY AT COWLEY

OXFORD promoter Jamie Courtney says the feedback from their next two home meetings could play a part in shaping decisions for the future.

The Cheetahs will race at home to Berwick and then Poole on the next two Fridays, having been predominantly a Wednesday night club since their return to the sport in 2022.

Courtney said: “Staging speedway at Oxford on a Friday evening is not re-inventing the wheel.

“Many of our supporters will remember Cowley’s glory days in the 1980s that saw Hans Nielsen, Simon Wigg and the like regularly performing in front of big Friday crowds, not to mention the pre-Cardiff Championship Pairs which were another crowd puller between 2022 and 2024.

“We will be monitoring things at the turnstiles for both the meetings against Berwick and Poole. If there is a significant rise in attendances then it will play a serious part in our forward planning.”
