GB YOUNGSTERS FACE SON2 BATTLE

THREE of Great Britain’s top youngsters compete in the FIM Speedway of Nations 2 in Prague today (Friday) as they bid to secure a medal.

The team is captained by British Under-19 Champion Luke Harrison (Northampton and Scunthorpe) who is joined by Poole and Belle  Vue racer Will Cairns, and his Pirates team-mate Cooper Rushen who also rides for top-flight King’s Lynn.

Both Cairns and Rushen are both just 16 years of age, with Rushen stepping in after Luke Killeen suffered concussion last week.

Rushen said: “It’s sometimes nice being the underdog. The Danes and the Poles are strong; there is no doubt about it. But speedway is a very weird sport, where things change very quickly. Anyone is beatable.

“We will all give it our all. We’ll go there elbows out, do GB proud and wear that suit with pride. If all three of us can get some wins on the board, it would be awesome. To be up there fighting for a medal would add to the excitement of the day and the overall experience.”

The meeting also includes Mitch McDiarmid (Oxford) and Tate Zischke (Belle Vue/Workington) representing Australia, along with Glasgow’s Mario Hausl for holders Germany.
