FIRST WIN FOR FOXES

NORTHAMPTON are celebrating their first victory since joining the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership after a dramatic 48-42 comeback triumph over Leicester.

The Lions raced into an early six-point lead but the Foxes levelled by Heat 9, and whilst the visitors briefly regained the advantage the meeting swung decisively with two home 5-1s in Heats 12 and 13.

Leicester then required a 5-1 from Heat 15 to salvage a draw but race leader Ryan Douglas suffered mechanical failure when they were on a 4-2, with Jaimon Lidsey taking the win for the hosts.

Lidsey, with 12+1, was unbeaten after the first race, whilst Niels-Kristian Iversen starred on debut with 11+1 and reserve

Kye Thomson added 10. Lions guest Lewis Kerr scored 11+1 with reserve Drew Kemp on 11.
Foxes boss Chris Adams said: “I’m really pleased. It was a great team effort, and tonight proved what we can do as a team.

“Every race counts, and you have to keep picking away at those points. We had ten race wins, only six last places, and it all adds up at the end of the night.

“It’s easy to chalk someone off the board, especially with Kye going well at reserve, and I could have taken Nicolai (Klindt) out of Heat 13. But sometimes you have to put your trust in your riders and Nicolai showed what he could do when he popped out of the start and won it.”

Lions manager Stewart Dickson said: “I think we had a bit of bad luck, but if I’m honest I had a bad feeling from around Heat 6 or 7 as they were making gates and winning races, and we threw away several points from scoring positions.

“It’s one that has got away from us, and the bottom line is that whatever happened to the bikes, whatever happened to the riders falling off, we made the mistakes and Northampton capitalised on it.

“I don’t want to make excuses – fair play to Northampton who dug in and got the win, and they’ll be pleased with that, but to be six points up and lose by six is disappointing.”
