TIGERS EDGE OUT COMETS

GLASGOW were taken all the way to a last-heat decider before overcoming Workington 48-42 in the Cab Direct Championship at Ashfield.

Home duo Chris Harris and Kyle Howarth raced to a 5-1 in the final race for the second-placed side who had to fend off a spirited Comets challenge to make it six wins in succession.

The absence of Danish youngster Villads Nagel had a major effect on the meeting as the Tigers were never able to go more than four points up prior to the decider, with Vinnie Foord’s win over Leon Flint in Heat 14 narrowing the gap to two.

Harris and Howarth (13+1) saw the home side through, though, as they cut the margin to leaders Poole to three points with two matches in hand. Troy Batchelor top-scored for the visitors with 9+1.

Glasgow boss Cami Brown said: “We knew Workington were going to be a real handful. That’s how it proved.

“The track wasn’t like it was last Saturday. They were beating us out of the starts and the boys had to work very hard to get the points. 

“It was too close for comfort. We’ve just got to take the positives. But to go six meetings unbeaten in this league is very good going.”
