AWAY JOY FOR MONARCHS

EDINBURGH took another big step forward in the race for the Cab Direct Championship play-offs with an impressive 50-40 win at Scunthorpe.

The Monarchs are third in the table having collected their second victory on the road, with former Scorpions rider Michael Palm Toft doing significant damage to his old club.

The visitors, backed by a large travelling support, went eight points down after four races but they fought back impressively with 5-1s in Heats 5, 7 and 9 to turn the match around.

Palm Toft (11+1) and Victor Palovaara then made things virtually safe with maximum points in Heat 13, and there was an important contribution at reserve from Jonatan Grahn with 10+1.

Steve Worrall top-scored for the Scorpions with 9+1 as their top four hopes took another hit.

Edinburgh manager John Campbell said: “It was a great performance once we got going.

“I spent some time with Michael and he responded, much more like his old self, but the whole team did well. I was very happy with them, and we can do well in the rest of the season.”
